Cinema Themes

Peter Benisch "Soundtrack Saga" - Considered his "debut," even after the deleted FAX title "Waiting for Snow" and rare import "Lindego," this one should propel Benisch all the way to the ranks of top electronic classics. Ambient soundscapes, deep rhythms, classic EM, and haunting vocals here and there with incredible, visual results. I can't stress what a completely satisfying CD this is ($17.98). It has everything atmosphere, beats, drama, space, exotica, electronica, and the legendary "Deep Space" sound. A+ CD $17.98
Crown Invisible 4: "Cinema" - more lush soundscapes from the Cursor Club team, a modern phenomena. Still at the amazing low price of: CD $8.98 For the Ambient Visions review of this CD click here.
Vedvik/Tillman "Cinematic Volunteer" - a surprise offering produced & distributed by Tom Vedvik, whose "Sutra Spin" & "Slowdiver" are Cyber Octave classics, and whose production on Tillman's "Eastern Twin" was nothing short of fantastic! This time they create music a bit more subdued, with great textures; combo of electronics & cello that can't be beat. CD $14.98
Boozoo Bajou "Satta" - This word in Patwa Jamaican means "Relax". The sounds experienced on this album are coming to you from all over the world and will make you do just that. Here you will find a celebration Dub like Lee Perry with Deep Blues from Muddy Waters incorporating the smooth as silk singing voices of Wayne Shorter or Gerry Mulligan. This sound seems to flow into a sea of oneness ,always changing but never deviating from its course. To accomplish such fluidity of sound with minimal movement (remember its hot in that jungle) takes real skill, expertise and craftsmanship. This all comes in the form of Florian Seyberth - Dub Reggae-DJ and Peter Heider - Percussionist and Studio Wizard. The ten tracks which make up this album are so completely one with each other and flow so effortlessly together you will surely agree it's the perfect blend of chillout, ambient dub, and downtempo ecstasy. Catchy beats, intoxicating electronica and surely one of the best finds of this great year! CD $17.98
Lost at Last "Lost at Last" new from Windham Hill ($16.98) and probably totally off the map as far as tribal/groove/trancey CDs go. As of now it is unheard here, but the buzz is load, wide and everywhere so far. Will be in stock before the end of August. Note that the first Lost at Last ($14.98) is also self-titled&ldots;. And is considered a classic in these hallowed halls. Get it if you missed out first time around&ldots;. CD $16.98
Global Collective "Red Sands Dreaming" A surprise release from New World that fits the Tya/Global Spirit/Waterbone mold. With its aboriginal roots and modern global/groove rhythms, this is a potential hit around here. CD $15.98 New music from Brian Eno & J. Peter Schwalm has also arrived, rhythmic & cinematic in its own way. Even Laurie Anderson appears on one track. More substantial than Neroli, more cohesive than Spinner, and less intense than Nerve Net - I'd say very good Eno and a fine new release of forward-looking music on any terms. It's called "Drawn from Life." CD $16.98
Shamall "The Book Genesis" Worthy of special mention is this artist from Europe who stands alone in his vision of progressive electronic music. While he pays homage to the power chord roots of rock music, he also offers a nod in the direction of atmospheric space, and does so with a grandiose elegance that makes for power-packed listening and a devoted following for those in the know. Shamall's latest is again 2-CDs, with homage to artists like Camel, David Gilmour, Eberhard Weber, Jimi Hendrix, Alan Parsons, Led Zeppelin, Weather Report, etc. As it is Shamall's 10th CD, he went all out & delivers to the max. ($23.98) |

Mich Gerber "Amor Fati" - Gerber's "Mystery Bay" has been such a hit, finally located in Switzerland after a year of searching, and we are excited to offer Mich's next CD, 'Amor Fati". Even more rhythmically kinetic, with pulsing electronics underscoring Gerber's incredible double bass playing (like a giant cello!). This is full-scale modern ambient music with classical leanings and a hypnotically, winning effect. Gets better with every listen... CD $17.98
"Himalaya" Soundtrack - The film this music comes from is causing a bit of a stir nationwide as it plays the "art-houses" and has been winning audiences and awards both with its stunning scenery, timeless storyline, and enveloping music. The soundtrack plays beautifully, capturing the essence of the movie and then some. In spite of a series of short tracks, there is a truly engaging flow throughout, highlighted by the vocals of Lama Gyurme, Tsering Lodoe & A Filetta.. See it, hear it, feel it! CD $18.98
Laswell/Kondo/Dalai Lama "Life o Space o Death" - An unusual trio, but what would you expect from Bill Laswell when involving an experimental musician from Japan and His Holiness The Dalai Lama? Spoken narration joins the fourth-world ambient strains of Laswell's pulsing bass, guitar & keyboards, & the trumpet & electronics of Toshinori Kondo. CD $15.98
Danny Heines "What Worlds They Bring" - A striking new release from guitarist Danny Heines, whose excellent back catalog of 4 titles remains available still. On his new CD, Danny merges world music styles with his own trademark sound, adding throat-singing, all manner of percussion, and guest appearances from irina Mikhailova, Tina Malia, Vicki Randle, Yshara, Michael Manring, Kip Kuepper and Ty Burhoe. Fantastic! CD $14.98
Stephen Baer "Seven Seas " -- The fourth title by Stephen Baer ventures even farther from the drum-based sound of his previous titles, into atmospheric, evocative musical terrain. As the follow-up to "Islands of the Orient," we find another global view of the unique artistic vision of this magical musical creation. Each track, and yes, there are seven of them altogether, has an aquatic theme, from 'Dead Calm' through to 'China Sea' and 'Winds of the Arctic' to 'Return to Atlantis (DeFresnes fans, take note!) and 'Sea of Tranquility,' the magnificent closing piece. Distant exotic voices, timely rhythms, and a masterful constructing of moods, melodic elements and dramatic flair add up to a fantastic CD for this Talking Drum label artist
Power of Movement "Body Empowerment" 2nd release from this rhythm-packed group that follows their own 5 year old classic "Dynamic Dancing". Three drum-only bonus tracks at the end form a nice 18-min. loop, and the rest is James Asher-type terrain, with strong world rhythms and complex music that fits the dance floor quite nicely. ($15.98)
Jamie Janover "Realms" - Jamie's name first appeared here in collaboration with Michael Masley on "All Strings Considered," a hammered dulcimer duo of duets. But he's been making innovative music for years. "Realms" is a uniquely eclectic blend of musical styles highlighted by his own virtuosity, with help from the likes of Darol Anger, Ty Burhoe, Kai Eckhardt, Howard Levy, Sally Van Meter and others. Tracks range from Hendrix' 'Third Stone from the Sun' to Mingus 'Goodbye Porkpie Hat" to Coltrane's 'Alabama' to The Dead's 'Dark Star' -- with a few originals thrown in for good measure! CD $15.98
Layne Redmond/Tommy Brunjes "Trance Union: World Rhythms of Transformation, Ecstasy and Bliss" - follow-up to "Roots of Awakening: Chanting the Chakras" is a drumfest of tuned frame drums &other percussion instruments, in a lyrical, healing exploration of rhythm. Utterly fantastic, highly recommended! CD $15.98 Jessica Marcus "Heart of the Matter" - This is the third title we are featuring by noted percussionist Jessica Marcus. In a collaboration with Kabir, who plays cheng (Chinese harp), didgeridoo and guitar, Jessica adds tablas, congas, shakers, bells, etc. Would provide ideal setting for yoga, massage and even meditation of sorts. Combines focus on percussion with world/sacred elements, yet still drum-centered CD $14.98

CD $17.98 Rajna "Ishati" - A surprisingly impactful release from Projekt which will satisfy those who have missed Dead Can Dance! Jeanne Lefebvre's ethno-gothic voice casts a spell of ecstasy & trance, ritualistic & spirited. CD $15.98
Sisé "Sisé" Electronic beats meet Latin rhythms head on and in your face with this spicey, adventurous and thoroughly soulful effort. Three by Nana Simopoulos introduce a new World music artist who has been crafting her music over the past decade. Prolific on sitar, bouzouki, fretless guitar and using her voice sparingly, Nana works with a host of fine artists like Steve Gorn, Badal Roy, Ustad Sultan Khan, Arto Tuncboyiciyan and others. Sinewy, sensuous and flowing world music strains blend and move into a fascinating tapestry. We found this one through our friends in the Continuum movement work. At once a classical virtuoso, ambient visionary & pop musician of warmth & feelings, he enchants with compositions flowing effortlessly from his nylon strings skillfully accompanied by keyboards, percussion, bass, rhythm guitar and occasional violin or flute. While occasional melancholy and pathos pull on the heart strings, this music is brimming with life, joy & happiness. The charts are stacked with odds-on favorites and bigger names, but Linstead is a sure-fire longshot in the race for nouveau flamenco glory. CD $15.98
Govi "Your Lingering Touch" - the 2nd collection of favorite tracks from engaging guitarist Govi both shines and sparkles with his tropical/romantic approach and passionate playing. CD $15.98
PC Davidoff "Buddha" - We featured Davidoff in the Summer 2001 flyer, & already there is a newer title. He is really good at providing backdrops for yoga, meditation and any setting for the Healing Arts. CD $15.98
Osho Zen Tarot "Music for Tarot Reading" - This one is unique, partly because of the anonymity of the recording artists responsible for the music. The music was composed and performed at the Osho Meditation Center in Poona, India, and its meditative yet joyous feeling crates an ideal atmosphere. CD $14.98
Mark Hunton "Heart of an Angel" - 2nd release by Spotted Peccary artist Mark Hunton, in a CD that is a bit sweet and angelic for Spotted Peccary, But it is still worthwhile, with an enchanting sound that combines many instruments with its music to "move the spirit and inspire the heart". Mellow vocals & a few well-placed ethnic instruments add up just right. CD $14.98
Sha-Na-Ra "Heartplay" - Newest from the artist who released "Shambhala Bells" last year. Dreamy, ethereal music with two long tracks designed to open the heart. CD $14.98

Karunesh "Zen Breakfast" - Combining the following elements with rare mastery - exotic, flowing, romantic, melodic, healing, inspired - Karunesh has made one of the best musical CDs I have heard in ages. Destined to be a #1 release for 2001, this is quite different from Global Spirit (which was also Karunesh) or ANYthing else he has done. If you have ever wondered just how excellent "New Age Music" could be - try this, but don't let it be limited by your own thinking. This CD will take you places, much like the "Graceful Passages" CD from last year... A+ recommendation, which never departs from the heartfelt, inner journey that is so easy to tune into. Sacred music from far off visionary places that touch the heart close to home. CD $15.98
Mars Lasar "Karma" - It's been a few years since we heard from ace producer/musician Lasar. His "Karma" is the culmination of a life-long effort. Flowing music with vocal chants, stirring percussion and echoes of distant cultures in hidden corridors. Omar Faruk Tekbilek contributes the Middle Eastern instrumentation which thoroughly spices up the project. CD $15.98 For the Ambient Visions review of this CD please click here.
Sally Oldfield "Flaming Star" Fantastic, and rather surprising return to recording for this legendary singer from the UK. With hints of "Waterbearer" and a modern, "Adiemus"-like style, Sally shines brightly with her "Flaming Star," full of world music elements, musical depth and beauty, and a remarkable remix of her hit single 'Mirrors'. Could land the #1 vocal spot for 2001&ldots;.CD $15.98
Caroline Lavelle "Brilliant Midnight" - Second solo effort from cellist & lush vocalist Caroline Lavelle. Her 1st, "Spirit," was an all Wm. Orbit production (still in stock, $15.98). This one has a broader reach, guests like Hector Zazou, and plays beautifully with great results. CD $17.98
Erik Wollo "Wind Journey" - An exciting new Spotted Peccary CD due Aug. 1st. Any fan of Patrick O'Hearn or Wollo's previous gems will jump for this musical world of rich, vibrant textures and rhythmic pulses. Wollo, from Norway, has his own style, and he's at his best here. CD $14.98 For the Ambient Visions review of this CD please click here.
Lumin "Hadra" Second CD from this Bay area world/ambient group is a strong release that shines with creativity and originality. With exotic vocals by Irina, Middle Eastern and North African percussion, drum and bass motifs and haunting electronics that build trance inducing states. It's rare to have blissful, floating sounds intertwine so perfectly with diverse, compelling rhythms. CD $15.98
Various "Sky Dancing 2" -- the second compilation from Makyo's Dakini label. (Sevda, Masala, Prof. Trance, Makyo, Blue Planet Corp., Ochi Bros., Jaia, ISHQ); expected in September. If it's anything like the 1st one&ldots; (copies still available!) CD $19.98
Astarius is a local artist who plays didgeridoo. He is a sound healer who uses chants, overtone voices and rhythms in his work. ($15.98) A sheet is enclosed to show you his releases. "Dream Awake" and "Primordial Didge" might be the most straight forward, while "Spirit Rap" and "Reiki Temple Chants" has Astarius chanting Reiki symbols as invocations with overtone voice & didg drones. |
